Artist Statement

Embedded within the detritus of contemporary culture lies the potential for objects and ideas to re-permeate society in fascinating new ways. It is here that I find myself picking up the pieces of those disregarded and overlooked objects that carry with them a certain 'cultural baggage' or iconography that, within a society, serve as symbols of communication based on their previous life. Through the processes of adding, subtracting, reconfiguring and reinterpreting, my work reveals the intrinsic beauty of these cast-offs of society so that they may once again (or perhaps for the first time) demand our attention. The result is a collage of the strangely familiar that carries within it a shared cultural understanding through its components' previous circulation within our society.
